Scope of Work & Disciplines

Pindari was engaged for the supply, fabrication, installation and commissioning of a GPS positioning system on the Newman Stockyard Machines.Installation included design and fabrication of structures to hold the GPS Antennas and installation of GPS Systems Antennas and associated control equipment at the adjacent Fines Sample Station. There had been significant amount of downtime and alarms at the Newman Stockyard Machines caused by encoders.Due to the inefficiency and low performance of the encoders, an alternative or redundancy was required.Differential Global Positioning Systems (DGPS) was chosen as the alternative to the encoders. DGPS can be used to locate the position of the mobile machines and can be used to be the backup measurement system for the Encoders (Front Long Travel Encoder and Cable Reeler Encoder).

Key Challenges

Limited access to the Stackers required extensive preparation and planning to execute works in a limited shutdown window which required EWP and crane equipment. Working at heights on process related works and on live infrastructure including areas around the Fines Sample Station, Stockyard Stacker and at the fixed structure of the Stacker Tripper Conveyor.

The Pindari Advantages
