Chemical Bridge Timber Maintenance

Scope of Work & Disciplines

In accordance with Pindari’s commitment to engage local Indigenous communities, our South West division engaged a Roelands Village trainee to work on local projects and maintenance contracts with our team.

The trainee was instrumental in the successful execution of the 5-yearly Chemical Bridge Timber Maintenance for the Water Corporation across multiple locations in the Great Southern region.

Works included:

• Sealing of all exposed or susceptible timber end grain against the ingress of damaging moisture
• Application of a measured dose of diffusible fungicide to the ground zone of each timber pile
• Application of a measured dose of diffusible fungicide to the waterline zone of each timber pile in permanent water

Key Challenges

Residual pesticides could not be allowed to enter the water body or environment (other than that being treated). Containment initiatives were required to be utilised.

Manufacturer’s published recommendations and material safety data sheets needed to be understood, to ensure chemical toxicity and application risk information was known and observed.
